I once read a biography of Georgia O’Keeffe where
she explains the first time, as a very young girl,
she painted a tree trunk violet blue. The art teacher
at her school insisted that she always paint tree trunks brown.
She trusted her own sight and never looked back.
After a day of rain at a summer cottage at Lake George,
the tree trunks glowed in shades of violet, blue and green.
