I painted a study for this large painting one summer morning.
I set up my easel looking towards Farmer’s Bay with Mt. Philo
and Camel’s Hump in the distance because I had seen this view
many times on my early morning runs through Thompson’s Point.
do you think there is anywhere, in any language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure
that fills you,
as the sun
reaches out,
as it warms you
as you stand there,
empty-handed–
