both sides now
available through Edgewater Gallery
I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
–Joni Mitchell
Because I think of pop music as the poetry
of our age, and because Joni Mitchell speaks
for my particular generation so beautifully,
I named this painting after her song. Looking
out of an old camp kitchen window, through
my friend Su Shannon’s beautifully formed
hand-thrown pottery, I think of the current
‘Stay Home’ directives. We have lost so much
of our ordinary lives and yet there is still
something gained in living every day.
