At Thompson’s Point last summer there was a forlorn sailboat and a simple garage. The sailboat seemed to be dreaming of sailing on a lee wind as it angled just a bit towards the building, and the door seemed to stretch itself towards the boat in a welcoming gesture. A good partner knows how to keep dreams alive.

To live in this world

you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal;
to hold it

against your bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time comes to let it
to let it go.
