While spending time on the cape last summer,
I found time for some plein air painting, and this endless
little barn in Brewster became a subject of a few studies.
The early morning summer light was so clear and the shadows
so intensely blue.

But I also say this: that light
is an invitation
to happiness,
and that happiness,

when it’s done right,
is a kind of holiness,
palpable and redemptive.
