give me love
Painted exclusively for Vermont Public Radio
for their February 2013 fundraising drive,
the Bosc, Bartlett and Anjou pears were set
on my winter windowsill in the setting sun.
Each pear expressed its own individuality and yet
the reflected light from one pear onto another confirmed for
me that they were all part of something much larger.
Against a national backdrop of decreasing civility,
Vermonters have a way of creating
meaningful communities and I saw these
funny little pears responding to each other
in ways that reminded me of the people that
inhabit this remarkably tolerant state.
As I thought about a name for this painting,
I remembered the George Harrison song from his
album ‘Living in the Material World’
Give me love, give me love, give me peace on earth
Give me light, give me life, keep me free from birth
Give me hope, help me cope with this heavy load
Trying to touch and reach you with heart and soul.
I hope you will support Vermont Public Radio this February!
