interlude
in the artist’s private collection
I painted this simple painting on a hot summer
afternoon when the air was darker than the water,
pregnant with moisture and waiting to release the
clouds’ heaviness in a frenzy. While I was painting,
a doe calmly walked nearby and began to suckle her
fawn. Shortly after that, a porcupine made a straight
slow approach towards me, and I jumped into my car
to avoid a confrontation. The porcupine then huddled
under my car for about 15 minutes while I tried to dislodge
him with loud music. He finally sauntered away and I
got back to painting. It was pure Bluff Head magic.
