keeping company
in a private collection
sold through Edgewater Gallery
I know, I know. I anthropomorphize everything,
and buildings can suddenly call to me, saying
“over here!” This little storage barn and its
companion shed are tucked away in Shelburne,
Vermont, and I only noticed them because
I was parking in the Rustic Roots restaurant
parking lot one day. I came back on a summer
morning, before the restaurant was open, so I
could paint before the crowd showed up.
As fellow painter and wise woman
M. E. H. Holland has said, keeping company
is sometimes all we can do in difficult times.
Painting slowly, searching for the flickers of
light in the shadows; it is such a great way
to meditate on the inevitability of change.
