I have kept these three important
things in mind since I was about thirty
years old and read every novel and short
story of the Master — and the biography
by Leon Edel (a stemwinder in his own
right, with a four-book set to dive into
the life of this very psychologically
thoughtful writer.) The triptych was a
new challenge; I wanted each canvas
to stand on its own and yet need the
other paintings to feel more complete.

The Hill Barn is on a quiet road in
Ferrisburgh, its backyard a panorama
of Green Mountains. I was biking with my
husband and returned the next day
to do a pencil sketch and take notes.
