In 2017 I painted a study for this larger version.
It’s an odd little barn in Middlebury, Vermont that
hasn’t got a lot of panache, but it has an oddly
satisfying internal balance of forms that I just adore.

Next time what I’d do is look at
the earth before saying anything. I’d stop
just before going into a house
and be an emperor for a minute
and listen better to the wind
or to the air being still.
