old friends
in private collection
A long relationship can feel like two
porcupines trying to hug — there are times
when differences have loomed large
and I’ve wondered how my husband and
I will ever find a meeting place.
I love these two chairs, so distinct and idiosyncratic.
I remember seeing photos of the Iraq war in 2004,
and there were these ubiquitous plastic chairs in
many photos of the conflict. While there is
plenty in our consumer culture that I can disdain,
I also appreciate the beauty in this modern form. And the
red wicker chair has all the charm of its imperfections.
Most of all, I love how the shadows merge into one
sinuous shape beneath the two chairs. Ultimately,
I hope to bridge the gaps between two souls.
