Come What May

When you drive to the very end of Bluff Head Road, in Huletts Landing,
Lake George, the old farmland edged in trees is dazzling. Last summer,
as I set up my easel for the small oil study shown below, the setting sun
was playing with the newly planted little trees, making them glow like
sparkling jewels. The grand old cosmic maple played counterpoint, and
the light danced across the open field while the lake glowed hot pink in
between the rich dark tree trunks.

I thought about aging and rebirth. I wished the light would never dip
below the mountain. Beneath my longing, the refrain ‘change is inevitable’
played in my head. The earth will keep spinning in space and the trees
will keep growing and fading away just like the light.

I still want to ask for just a little more time.
