Please join Bonnie Baird and me Saturday, August 29. We look forward to seeing you and sharing our newest oil paintings in a show titled “Between.” We have so much history together, spanning about 35 years and encouraging each other both professionally and personally. I am so grateful for this opportunity to show latest body of work in the same beautiful gallery space.

Additionally, we have each forged relationships with amazing poets, and Becky McMeekin will be sharing a poem created in response to my paintings, and Mary Elder Jacobsen will offer a poem she has written about Bonnie’s paintings. Our cups are full.

Bonnie and I hope to see you there.

my artist statement:

I dream of oil paintings that feel as soft as cashmere, as calm as still water, as clear as reflected light—a grand ambition.

I’m happiest at my easel with an abundance of oil paints, a few new sable brushes and a stretched linen canvas. No gleaming linseed oil, no matte wax additive, no thickly applied paint or thin washes. My own particular enchantment. As I paint, I listen to storytellers from my English major past along with new and inspiring voices of compassion.

A splash of light on a metal roof or a deep cast shadow on an old barn—the places that captivate me echo wabi-sabi, the Japanese aesthetic of simplicity, imperfection and impermanence.
